A new concept in furnishing: designed by Sybarite

To celebrate the 70th edition of Pitti Uomo (the most important men’s fashion event worldwide held in Florence), Marzorati Ronchetti has entrusted Sybarite with the task of creating a design concept which
sits on the borderline between business, leisure, entertainment, and hospitality. All of this is expressed in an organic and free-flowing form with great technological potential.

It is called Archetto and is conceived as an independent module which can furnish a multi-functional environment. In fact by means of a few simple decorative elements a coherent environmental identity is created.

Archetto can be tailored by the inclusion of loudspeakers and a wireless connection, to meet all needs in a single space. These technical features make Archetto suitable for bars, restaurants, public areas in hotels and also places of entertainment.

The Hotel in Linz received the accolade as the Building of the Year

The Hotel in Linz by Hohensinn Architektur recently received the
accolade as the "Building of the Year" in the framework of the state culture awards 2010. The hotel is located directly next to Austria's largest church, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, and blends in perfectly with the city's redesigned Domplatz that brings together baroque, neo-gothic and ultra-modern architecture.


The top quality hotel receives its guests with a cosy atmosphere and reserved design. The light, warm rooms and suites stand out with a modern concept.
The classic dish basins by Alape, to be found in the bathrooms of the 70 hotel rooms, round off the reduced approach.
The wafer-thin, filigree dish structures of glazed steel stand out with their manufactory quality, while their durable and hardwearing properties make them simply ideal for use in hotels. The strength and elasticity of structured steel, combined with the chemical resistance of glass, make basins and washstands absolutely shock- and scratchproof.
An additional water-repellent glaze finish prevents any dirt and limescale
deposits on the basin.

Chandabrabhu - occasional table

Chandabrabhu is a grey Savoy marble occasional table, an Indian gothic gargoyle forming the basis of a neo Art Nouveau ‘

as if part of a larger architecture’

according to Sylvain Rieu-Piquet. That is a Hindu temple atomized by the anger of a capricious divinity, the great splendour of which ended up in Paris in the 21st century. Sculpted with a digital cutter, ‘Chandabrabhu’ proudly displays the grooves left by the contemporary tool to hide nothing of its industrial origins
A designer and a artist, Sylvain Rieu-Piquet assumes a double life as a designer for Thomson and with a personal career which is liberated from design constraints, to let an extravagant and romantic plastic vocabulary radiate. The assurance of his style and confidence in a universe where fantasy and luxuriance meet a priori, far from classical marketing design successes, today make him one of the most interesting designers of his generation.

New lamp by Guillaume Delvigne

To celebrate its launch during Designers Days event in Paris, Specimen was proposing a special co-edition in partnership with Terres Nuages. The O10* lamp designed by Guillaume Delvigne is a piece which is joining the realms of furnishing. The light is reduced to its simplest expression: brightness in space. In the background, the object takes shape in a single precise line. Snaking from one space to another, the electric flex draws the contours. The first Specimen collection was on view with exclusive pieces by Sylvain Rieu-Piquet, Constance Guisset, Guillaume Delvigne, Pierre Lota and Olivier Grégoire.

Bordering art and industrial produce, Specimen is a new design house in perpetual movement, the only mode which functions in its urgency to continually produce new pieces which do not adhere to the standard set of rules. No permanent showroom; no artistic restrictions; just one absolute rule: to offer limited edition pieces by up and coming designers who find it possible to freely assert their individuality with Specimen.

Personal, extraordinary, poetic and technically innovative, each piece is an example in itself. It is futile looking for a similarity or resemblance between each of them. Based on love at first sight and meeting with designers, this business venture between Tristan Pannier and Alaric Miaume makes any attempt at classification obsolete.

Specimen will meet collectors in France and abroad, in contemporary art fairs and design events promoting French design, creation and a certain state of mind which is equally ephemeral and irrepressible: youth and desire.

A vase evokes the water cycle, snap shot of a subtle natural harmony.
The dynamic of the water is accentuated by the rigidity of a glass bubble that surrounds.

This vase is the result of a meeting between computer technology and a French high quality craftsmanship. Realized by a glass craftsman who has implemented the necessary technique to realize the vortex.

Wallpaper for hard times

We aren't surprise to see that interior trends became more hair shirt. New wallpaper presented just last week approve this tendency.


The paper based wallpaper created by betontapete looks like real concrete but "still got the advantages of a wallpaper". For now pre-collection is shown at s.wert flagship store, Berlin. In order to promote "new look" s.wert reminded about the benefits of concrete:

Tadao Ando once called concrete "Marble of
the 20th Century ". Zaha Hadid thinks that concrete is "somehow sexy ".

However I suppose that such wallpaper will attract designers more then ordinary consumers...

WA Community starts a new section

If you are interested in architecture and (or) promotion you are supposed to know WA Community Directory
Today Jonathan Budd sent me a letter:

We have decided to start a new section where scholars and academics can share their personal courseware (PowerPoint Presentations, Videos, Lecture Notes,..) with all humanity. What good is a true word if not spread infinitely?

The idea came from some Honorary Members who offered their videos to be freely downloaded from WA Portal.

Consequently we began to prepare full version presentations of the Winner projects for each quarterly cycle accompanied with full description files of each project. And here they are...

Please invite all scholars to download them for special lectures to inform their students about contemporary trends in architecture by discussing selected examples. More will soon follow.

And you can send to WA editors Ophelia Fletcher and Celine Dupret your own files and documents so that we can offer them in this section to a worldwide audience!
